Crochet Ribbed Beanie Size Guide

This beginner crochet beanie fits most adults with medium size, but it’s very forgiving because of the ribbing stretch.

Approximate fit:

  • Head circumference: 54–55 centimeters

  • Height: 27–55 centimeters

  • Finished stretch: comfortable and snug

If your beanie looks slightly small at first — that’s normal. Ribbing stretches beautifully once worn.

Crochet-along tip:
Feel free to pause, rewind, and crochet stitch by stitch with me. There’s no rush.

Step 1: Slip Knot & Foundation Chain

Start by making a slip knot and place your hook into the knot.

Chain 46  for the height of your beanie + Chain 2 as turning chain = Total 48 chains

For beginners:

  • Crochet slowly

  • Count your stitches

  • Don’t worry if your chain isn’t perfect

๐Ÿ‘‰ If your chain feels tight, go up one hook size.

Step 2: Start the Ribbing

Row 1

36 hdc + 10 sl st = Total 46 sts

For ribbed texture:

  • Work your stitches carefully

  • Keep your tension relaxed

  • Focus on consistent movement, not speed

๐Ÿ’ก
Your edges don’t need to be straight yet. Ribbing evens out as you go.

Row 2

chain 1, turn your work

10 sl st - blo + 35 hdc - blo + 1hdc (normal) = Total 46 sts

Row 3

chain 2, turn your work

1hdc (normal) + 35 hdc - blo + 10 sl st - blo = Total 46 sts

Step 3: Crochet Ribbing (Repeat Rows)

This is where the magic happens ✨

You’ll repeat the same ribbing rows [row 2 + row 3 alternately] again and again to build length.

Crochet-along reminders:

  • Count stitches each row

  • Keep your hook relaxed

  • You can follow the video tutorial whenever needed

Say this in your head as you crochet:

“Slow stitches are good stitches.”

Your ribbed panel will slowly start to look like a knit hat, even though it’s crochet.

Step 4: Check Length & Fit

Once your ribbed rectangle wraps comfortably around your head without stretching, you’re ready to finish.

Beginner tip:

  • Slightly snug is perfect

  • Too loose won’t hold shape

  • recommended to make it 3–5 centimeters smaller than the head circumference

If unsure, wrap it gently — don’t stretch it.

Step 5: Join the Beanie Seam

Fold your ribbed piece; cut the yarn with enough length keeping in mind that we have to sew the edges.

Using your yarn needle:

  • Sew the edges together neatly

  • Sew only with outer loops of both the corresponding stitches

  • Keep stitches even but not tight

  • Watch the video tutorial for cleaner sewing

After completing your beanie, you won't recognize the seam.

Step 6: Close the Top of the Beanie

Thread your yarn needle through the top edge and gently pull to close.

Take your time here — slow finishing makes a big difference.

Secure your yarn, weave in ends, and admire your work ๐ŸŽ‰
